Days 12 & 13: Croatia - What it means to travel solo
On Day 12 I left Zagreb around 10. I enjoyed a nice ride. On bridge in the way with a small river and lots of free land reminded me of a place I visited a few years ago with my friend Eric.
I was reminded of the nice time Eric and I spent together on that trip and how the memory connects is still, to this day. Traveling solo means to me I get to make all the decisions, go and stop as I intuit it. Traveling solo also means not sharing experiences with people who are important to me. I even had an example prior to the bridge, an unexpectedly good meal at an Alm in Austria, I believe at the Rettenbachalm, that I really would have liked to experience with Johanna. I knew this before I left home. I also talked about it with friends. But I already had been solo traveling for half a year in 2014 and looking back on that time the drawback did not feel as much of a drawback as it does now.
I spontaneously checked into a camping at Duga Resa at 3 in the afternoon. I went swimming for the first time since I left home. The water was very refreshing and the camping overall a nice place.
I left at 9 in the morning on Day 13. What a beautiful ride!
My goal for Day 13 was the coast. Thanks to Komoot the ride had a couple of more ... adventurous parts. And even though I planned on sticking to campings from now on, I could not resist the awesome spot I found.
