Days 20 to 26: Croatia & Mostar
I stayed in Knin in a private room to recover from my cold. I enjoyed preparing my meals in a kitchen, sleeping in a comfortable bed and reading a lot.
But I also really wanted to get back on the road. I took it easy on Day 24. I visited a campground in Garjak where I met Roberto with whom I enjoyed a long conversation about energy crops, drones, the stars, pyramids and motorcycling. Thanks for the nice evening, Roberto!
In the next day I did a bit longer tour and did another night in a forest.
On Day 26 I had a pretty wild experience with a non existing road. I ended up pushing and even carrying my bike for 2km before I was bank on a road. The funny thing is that I even conversed with a Bosnian man about it. He mimicked that it would be challenging with the bike, but I did not expect to end up deep in the woods with no clear path ahead of me. Anyway, I made it through with some scratches. I plan to ask around and take more in to account what locals say if Komoot suggests these types of roads again (they are shown as a thin line on the map, so I can check beforehand).
I finally arrived in Mostar, to which I was looking forward a long time. The city is beautiful, full of life and staying in a hostel is nice for a change. Also the food, mostly minced meat like Cevapi, is fantastic. Thanks to Maureen, Elizabeth and and Eric for recommending the city. Definitely worth the visit!
I stayed another night and left in the direction the coast again to visit Dubrovnik. Afterwards comes Albania and Greece all the way to Turkey. I might have to change my rhythm a bit. Getting up earlier (4? 5? 6?) would allow me to escape the heat. Anyway, I'll see how that goes.
Good to be back on the road!
